The Art Of {The Selfie}

I have been known to take a selfie or 6 in my day. So today I thought I would blog about some tips and tricks to taking the perfect selfie.

I touched briefly upon the importance of eyebrows in pictures in one of my musings posts. The perfect arch will make you look good in real life and in pictures even if you don't have any makeup on. When you have great shape to your brows, you automatically have great shape to your face. So, step one to the perfect selfie = perfect eyebrows.

Obviously being camera ready when taking your selfie always helps. Of course big lashes are very important to make your eyes pop for the picture. IMO though, there is an even more important step in giving good face with makeup and that is HIGHLIGHTING & CONTOURING. I had to yell that because I feel so strongly about this topic...Highlighting and contouring makes it so you don't have to do much with your face (besides angle it the right way - see below) in order to get that perfect shot. Although I think Kim Kardashian is stunning without make up, contouring makes it so she is even MORE stunning in pictures. I actually believe that Kimmy K and her makeup artist (Joyce Bonelli) brought contouring back into style. So take a page out of the K handbook, contour and highlight your face and watch your selfies and regular pictures turn into Instagram gold. Jaclyn Hill has my favorite contouring video in all the (YouTube) land.

Everyone has a good side and everyone has a good angle. The trick is finding said angle. It's pretty rare that some one's best "side" is straight on. Angling your face and body while posing for the camera is always the way to go. If you have ever seen a photo of Paris Hilton (who has worked with a posing coach) you will notice that she is NEVER straight on in photos. Angling yourself softens up your lines and helps the light disperse evenly. Now, this is not to say that once you find your good side that you should take every selfie with the same face/angle. I can not stand when girls (or guys) post the same picture with the same face and the same angle. Switch it up a little! The trick is to practice in the mirror and to take a million pictures to see what angles (plural) are your best ones.

Okay, so there is one trick to my selfie game that I will not give away (hey, a girl's got to keep SOME things to herself) and that is what filter app I use. But I will say that a filter (or two) always helps your case. Don't ever be afraid to use them because EVERYONE does... #nofilter = lies

Musings

Hello my lovelies! You will have to excuse the hiatus, The Mister and I were in Upstate NY for the weekend catching up with his family and watching Cy make memories with his cousins. We got so lucky for amazing weather and a great weekend!

There were two items that saved my life this weekend and those were my Fast Flats and Revive Vitamin Water. My flats saved my feet after I rocked those ShoeDazzle wedges for like 6 hours and the Vitamin Water helped the next morning after too many martinis. It's always been my hangover remedy and always works like a charm.

I was going through my craft room the other day and came across this fashion sketch coloring book that I HAD to have a few years back. I have only really colored in it a few times but I still love it. Such a fun idea. I have no clue where I got it from. It was an online impulse purchase.

When The Mister and I finally settled down after a long weekend, we had a full DVR to catch up on. One of our shows to watch was Community. We have watched The Soup and have been big Joel McHale fans for a while now. I know the show has had it's ups and downs but I truly think it's a brilliant show. And last Thursday's was one of the best of this season!

Disney Dining posted a blog post the other day about a monorail crawl. Many people have heard of drinking their way around the world in Epcot but I had never heard of doing the monorail crawl and I think it's a great idea! You stop at the Contemporary Resort, the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian. Disney Dining has drink/bar/food recommendations for all the resorts in their blog post!

Musings

If you love yourself a good food Instagram picture, I suggest you follow Aziz Ansari's Instagram account...The pictures are divine and it actually makes me want to cook! Hear that Mister? I was perusing his account the other day and came across this picture -

The dish is called "Eggs in Purgatory." It seems like a pretty easy recipe so I am going to try it one day soon. And if I never post about it again, you will know why! :)

I am writing this just minutes after I posted this selfie on FB and Insta...

Ever since I started this foray into blogging at the beginning of the year, my social media presence has been amplified. And apparently that means more selfies. So I apologize to anyone getting sick of them...I am getting sick of myself too..and I promise this will be the last one for a while...What is it about a good selfie?!?!

Did anyone fall for any April Fools jokes the other day? I certainly did...One of the Disney Facebook pages I follow, Disney Dining, posted an article that was titled "Le Cellier Steakhouse to Undergo Major Refurbishment." And then they had a picture of the Outback Steakhouse logo..For the whole day on April 1 I was devastated! Just a background of this - Le Cellier is the best steakhouse on Disney property in the CANADA pavilion in Epcot. Of course I didn't take the time to read the actual article. If I did, I would have remembered that Outback is Australian based. It wasn't until I was just about to tell The Mister about it later in the day that I realized it was an April Fools article. Jokes on me I suppose..But I am making sure I make an ADR at Le Cellier next time I head to 'The World..just in case they do replace it with an Outback one day!!
